The Curl Concierge of Ballantyne

How stylist Kendra Janelle Spann built a trusted home for textured hair

First impressions matter

A measuring tape hangs beside every mirror at Hair by Kendra Janelle Salon & Extensions. It is the first clue that appointments here begin with precision, not marketing speak. Owner Kendra Janelle Spann launched her extension line in 2020, after a decade behind the chair, and revealed one hard truth: clients with curls rarely found extensions that blended naturally with their hair. She decided to change that from the inside out.

Spann describes the Delaney Drive location as the flagship, while the Sharon Road suite accommodates long-time clients who prefer a discreet setting.

Why curls took center stage

Spann entered cosmetology school straight after high school in 2010. A decade later, supply shocks during the pandemic convinced her to develop her own extension inventory that would “blend beautifully with natural hair,” she says. Today her brand offers curly and straight textures vetted through a European manufacturing partner she helped source.

Education over upsell

In consultations, Spann emphasizes scalp health and daily maintenance. “Healthy hair starts with proper education, high-quality products, and services tailored to individual needs,” she tells new clients. She shares take-home routines and schedules follow-up checks to track progress.

A life balanced by family and faith

Raised partly outside North Carolina, Spann returned to the state in recent years to be closer to relatives. Off the salon floor, she blocks out time for rest, church, and walks with Moni, the German shepherd who often greets guests. Clients say Moni adds a layer of calm to the experience.

“Everyone leaves feeling their absolute best”

Spann’s goal for Ballantyne residents is straightforward: a welcoming space that empowers women to embrace their natural beauty. Her partner-referred salon model relies on word-of-mouth rather than high-pressure advertising.
