Lanphier Record Group: Family Conversations Before Financial Strategies
When families in Ballantyne talk about legacy, the best meetings often start around a table, not a ticker. The Lanphier Record Group in Charlotte builds its practice around that idea. Growth matters, but preparation matters more. The work is about creating intentional plans, encouraging open conversation, and helping the next generation feel ready for what they will one day lead.
“The most successful outcomes come from not just growing wealth, but preparing the next generation to manage it wisely. That requires sound planning and open communication.” — Greg Record
Their core values are simple and lived: excellence, care, trust, dedication, teamwork. Backed by Merrill Lynch’s research and resources, the team specializes in being present through good markets and tough ones, translating complexity into choices that align with a family’s values and long-term goals.

Who You’ll Meet
Greg Record leads with personal attention and long-term partnership. Charlotte has been home since 2010, where he and his wife, Emma, are raising two young boys. Away from the office, Greg is an emerging golfer who still claims to be a better fisherman, and a regular at family dinners with friends, new restaurants, and trips that recharge perspective.
What clients notice most is the sincerity. The conversations are about what matters, not just what performs. The objective is confidence and clarity that everyone in the family understands.
How The Work Happens
Facilitated conversations. Topics that usually get postponed are brought forward, with a focus on values, time horizon, risk, and how to prepare heirs.
Plain-English decisions. Complex choices become understandable options.
Customization. Merrill Lynch capabilities are tailored to fit each client’s goals.
Consistency. Plans evolve as life changes.
Community Roots
Greg grew up in Charlottesville and studied at Roanoke College, where he met Emma. A family small-business story shaped his view of money and community. His father taught that “money moves in circles between you and the community you serve,” an idea that continues to guide his work in Charlotte. Greg has served as President of Rocky River Trout Unlimited, Chair of Ballantyne Relay for Life, Chair of the Charlotte Chapter of the Roanoke College Alumni Association, and Pineville’s Representative for the Arts and Science Council.

Why This Matters In Ballantyne
Families here build companies, volunteer in schools, and give quietly. The practical question is how to pass on assets and judgment. The Lanphier Record Group focuses on both. A plan that the entire family understands is worth more than a binder on a shelf.
