A Simple Morning With CMPD at Summit Coffee
On December 12, from 9 to 11 a.m., Coffee With A Cop comes to Summit Coffee Ballantyne. The idea is direct: officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will be available for open conversation, no stage, no agenda, and no formal program. Just the opportunity for neighbors to sit down at a table, coffee in hand, and talk.
The gathering takes place at Summit Coffee Ballantyne, located at 13743 Conlan Cir, Suite 101. It’s one of the neighborhood’s most consistent community meeting spots, and on this morning it becomes a place for residents to ask questions, hear from officers, or simply introduce themselves.
Sponsor Spotlight: Mercedes-Benz of South Charlotte
Before we continue: a thank-you to Mercedes-Benz of South Charlotte, whose commitment to community storytelling helps make work like this possible.
MBSC, at 950 N Polk St in Pineville, is the region’s #1 volume Mercedes-Benz dealer across a four-state area for five consecutive years. The dealership was founded by Felix Sabates and later acquired by Roger Penske, with leadership now under General Manager Tom Marcham. Their philosophy centers on long-term relationships, integrity, and the idea that “luxury isn’t a product line; it’s a level of care.”

What to Expect: A Straightforward Conversation
Coffee With A Cop is scheduled for the second Friday of each month from 9–11 a.m., creating a recurring chance for neighbors to speak directly with officers in an everyday setting.
Residents can ask about:
- Local concerns
- Processes for reporting issues
- General questions about CMPD’s work
- Topics affecting Ballantyne neighborhoods
The format is intentionally simple. Officers will be available for conversation throughout the two-hour window, and community members can speak with them at their own pace.
December Includes a Holiday Toy Drive
During the December 12 event, a toy collection basket will be available for families who are still working to rebuild after Hurricane Helene. Anyone who wants to participate is invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy to contribute.
The collection basket will be on-site throughout the event.
Why This Matters to Ballantyne
Strolling Ballantyne exists to document the people, places, and rhythms that define our neighborhoods. This event fits squarely into that mission: it’s local, accessible, and focused on building trust through real conversation rather than announcements or statements.
A monthly opportunity to speak directly with CMPD in a familiar setting adds clarity to how community relationships are built—patiently, regularly, and face-to-face.

About the Author
Nell Thomas writes for The Charlotte Mercury and contributes to Strolling Ballantyne, focusing on local stories that matter even when they do not announce themselves loudly. Most of her drafts begin or end a few doors down at Einstein Bros. Bagels Ballantyne, where the coffee program features Caribou Coffee, the bagels are baked fresh daily, and the menu includes options like egg sandwiches, specialty schmears, and cold brew. The shop sits at 13736 Conlan Cir, conveniently close enough to make caffeine a structural part of her reporting process.
Her work appears in Strolling Ballantyne, The Charlotte Mercury, and across the Mercury Local network.
