Her new book asks readers to give themselves permission to build wealth.
Marcia Dawood, a Ballantyne Country Club resident, has a new book, Unapologetic Wealth, about the beliefs and experiences that shape how people think about money.
"Unapologetic Wealth is about letting go of those inherited beliefs," Dawood says. "It means giving yourself permission to build wealth intentionally."
Dawood spent many years in corporate America before an invitation to an angel investing meeting in 2012 changed the direction of her career. Angel investors put their own money into young companies. Drawn to entrepreneurs building new solutions in healthcare, technology, education and other fields, she grew more and more involved, and she noticed that many people, particularly women, didn't realize those investments were open to them.
That led to speaking engagements, a TEDx talk, a podcast and two books. The first, Do Good While Doing Well, introduced readers to angel investing and equity crowdfunding, where many people each put a small amount into a company in exchange for a share of it.
For Dawood, wealth reaches well past a bank account to health, relationships, time, purpose and community, with money as a tool that can create choices and opportunities.
Dawood and her husband have strong ties to South Charlotte and the club. This year they bought a Gorilla Property Services franchise serving homeowners and businesses in the area.
Her message to readers: "Your past doesn't determine your financial future. You can rewrite your money story, make intentional choices and build wealth that reflects your values."
