On Wednesday, June 24, the room at Libretto's Pizzeria on John J Delaney Drive is going to fill up with tile racks, hot pizza, and the steady clatter of a good mahjong table. From 6 to 9 p.m., Stroll Ballantyne is teaming up with Ashley Horton of Premier Sotheby's International Realty for a Mahjong Night, and the best part is this: you do not need to know how to play to come.
There are two ways to join.
Mahjong 101 is for beginners, and it is capped at 16 seats. Your spot includes instruction from the team at Ivory & Indigo, all the game materials, pizza, a drink, and entry into the Mahjong Swag Raffle. You can walk in never having touched a tile and walk out actually knowing the game. If you have been meaning to learn, this is the low-pressure night to do it. New to the game? Open Play is for experienced players who already have the rhythm. It is $20 (use code OPENPLAY20 at checkout), and you will want to bring your 2026 NMJL card.
Either way, it is an easy evening out: good company, good food, and a game that is a lot more fun in a room full of people than it is on an app.
