Steve Baune used to text his friends on Saturday mornings and set up a table beside the fifth hole so passing golfers could take a Bloody Mary. He died in 2014. The tournament his Rotary club built in his name has raised more than half a million dollars since.
Bloody Marys on Five, known as BMOF, is a charity golf tournament run by the Meck South Rotary Club at Piper Glen, a golf club in south Charlotte. It started in 2014 in honor of Steve Baune, a Rotarian and friend of the club.
Steve lived on hole number five at Piper Glen. On Saturday mornings he would text his friends "Bloody Marys on Five!" and then set up a table so golfers could stop by and grab one as they passed in their carts.
Steve died in 2014 of cancer, and his Rotary club created the tournament to honor him in both name and legacy. Since then, more than $500,000 in donations have gone into the community, primarily to Beds for Kids, an organization Steve was deeply committed to and served on the board of.
The 2026 tournament, which the club counts as its twelfth, is on September 28 and returns to Piper Glen. This year's beneficiaries are Families Forward, Feeding Charlotte and Beds for Kids.
The day includes breakfast and drinks on the range, lunch on the course, a banquet dinner after the round, a tee gift and, of course, Bloody Marys out on the course.
