Partner Spotlight: a paid placement by a neighborhood business, not editorial coverage.
A retired teacher and coach and his sister bring the gas station to your driveway.
Jeff Hanood's pitch starts with a feeling most drivers know. The gas light comes on, and you start wondering whether you will make it to a station. Juiced Fuel is his answer to that.
Hanood owns Juiced Fuel Charlotte, a mobile fuel delivery service. Customers schedule a fill-up through the Juiced Fuel app, and a truck comes to them, at home in the driveway or at work. Juiced Fuel is a franchise company that started in Charleston, S.C., and Hanood runs the Charlotte franchise with his business partner, his sister, Kelly Wells.
Before fuel, he spent his career as a school teacher and coach, and he is now retired from it. He says those years taught him to show up prepared, lead with character and put people first, and that the same values run the business.
Hanood grew up in Franklin, Virginia, a small town, and moved to Charlotte in 2000. He lived first in Pineville, right when Ballantyne was starting to grow. Today he, his wife and their two kids live in north Charlotte. The two siblings had always talked about starting a family business, he says, and his sister's move from Maine to Charlotte is what finally made it possible.
His proudest moment so far was the first pump: filling a U-Haul truck that came in on fumes. He followed up with that U-Haul location and became its fuel provider. Now, when they need fuel, he gets an email.
For businesses, he suggests a small test. Time one trip to the gas station and back, including the fill-up. Multiply that by the fill-ups each vehicle needs in a month, then by the number of vehicles, then by your average hourly wage. "That number is what you're losing at the pump every month," he says.
His advice for everyone else: you do not have to wait for empty. Running low is usually not a problem, he says, but it can be. The fuel pump sits inside the tank and uses the gasoline around it to stay cool. A low tank can let the pump take in air and overheat, and an empty one can pull dirt from the bottom of the tank into the fuel filter.
