Partner Spotlight: a paid placement by a neighborhood business, not editorial coverage.
Two Charlotte brothers saw a truck clean trash cans at the beach and decided to bring the idea home.
Darrick Leopard was sitting on a porch at the beach when a truck pulled up and cleaned the trash cans. He watched the whole process and thought it could work back home in Charlotte.
That idea is now Trash Pandas of the Carolinas, which Darrick runs with his brother. They clean trash cans and also pressure wash, for homes and commercial properties, and they come to you. Their tagline is "Raccoon Tough, Carolina Clean."
The brothers are Charlotte natives who, as Darrick puts it, "grew as the city did". They wanted a business built around family. They prayed over it as a family, he says, and took what he calls a leap of faith into running their own company. The family has a name for itself, too: the Leap, a play on their last name and the word for a group of leopards.
The journey took two years. Darrick says he will never forget the look on his brother's face when their first trailer, newly wrapped, sat in the driveway.
Their first customer was a test of what they say they stand for. After a small miscommunication on his part, Darrick says, the brothers took care of her first month. She was understanding about it. When they rang the bell, introduced themselves and cleaned her two cans, she was blown away by how clean and fresh they were. Back in the truck, he says, they were overcome. They prayed, gave thanks and drove off "on an all time high."
What sets them apart, he says, is the relationship. "It's not just another stop on our routes," he says. "We want to put faces with the homes we serve."
Their advice is a monthly cleaning, which they say keeps cans clean and keeps germs, bacteria, insects and animals out. And if you see them working in the neighborhood, Darrick says, come say hi.
