Coffee with a Cop is a standing invitation. Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department spend a couple of hours at Summit Coffee on Conlan Circle, and anyone who lives nearby can turn up and talk to them.
On Friday, September 25, there will also be birria.
Tacos Las Catrina's, a Mexican food truck based in Monroe, is parking outside the shop for the morning. Brynn Dombroski, the N2 Company area director who organizes the gatherings, is the one lining up the trucks.
Birria is meat, usually beef, slow-cooked in chiles until it shreds, and it often arrives as a taco you dip back into the cooking broth. The truck lists it first among the things it makes.
Dombroski says tacos run $1 to $3, quesadillas $10 to $12, and burritos $12 to $14.
The rest is what it always is. No agenda, no speeches, no sign-up. Officers who work this part of Charlotte, neighbors who live in it, and two hours to talk while nothing official happens.
